The Genesis: The Idea

A guest post from Running Church – Shrewsbury…

Over the past few months I have been asking God for inspiration and a new way to share life with others and also share the good news of Jesus Christ. I love to see others encounter Jesus.

My passion for running has meant that in the past year I have made many new friends and been connected to hundreds of people all over the country through running. I love talking about running, reading about it, watching and well racing too! But I also love supporting others to do the same.

But actually why not share two of my passions? Running and Faith in Jesus.
Why not take an active step to merge the two?

I think this is what God is calling me to do…

So today I have decided over the next few months I am going to develop and orgainse a community of people to be Running Church to begin with in the town of Shrewsbury, UK
with the hope of launching a new project, church, movement, community, group, informal gathering!

We will have a simple format:
In about an Hour
Meet (Venue, Time and Dates TBC)
Pray
Run: sharing life and supporting one another
Pray
Go Home, but also back to where God has placed us.

My hope is that as we share life, we can share ups and downs as well as encouragement in faith
My hope is that we are a group of people who follow Jesus teachings: Loving God and Loving Others.
My Hope is that we can welcome others to be a part of the group.

It is a total unknown if we will be anything more than a blog post and a twitter feed, or one chap with an idea. But its worth the risk to find out.

A verse that helped me or prompted me in the last few days was Matthew 11:28-30 The Message Bible describes it like this….

28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

My Hope is that we will be a life giving group which will encourage us all to Walk with Jesus.
